DUTIES / TASKS

The primary role of all Caring Hands Animal Hospital employees is to ensure that our clients and patients experience top-notch customer service and patient care.  The Licensed Technician’s responsibilities include:

·          Data entry via Electronic Medical Record system

·          Medical care of animals including restraint, radiographs, lab work, etc.

·          Assist in medical, surgical, and dental procedures.

·          Properly care for all surgical materials; maintain hospital equipment and inventory. Prepare and maintain the surgery room, ICU area, exam rooms, and treatment areas.

·          Possess a wide range of technical and laboratory skills; demonstrates proper radiograph technique following safety protocols; places IV catheters and properly cares for them; prepares patients and the machine for an ultrasound procedure;

·          Prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a calm, organized manner.

·          Client Education

·          Maintain a clean and orderly facility.

·          Uphold positive, cooperative relationships with other employees.

·          Perform other duties as assigned.

 QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

·          Active Virginia LVT licensure in good standing required

·          Previous relevant experience desirable

·          Must be 18 years of age or older

·          Excellent communication skills, and teamwork abilities

·          Strong computer skills

·          Work requires lifting and carrying animals up to 30lbs unassisted.

·          Walks or stands for extended periods of time; frequently works in a bent position.

·          May be exposed to unpleasant odors & noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches and contagious diseases.

HOURS / WORK SCHEDULE

Full-time and part-time positions available.  Must be able to work morning, evening, and Saturday shifts.  Flexible availability is a must, as is the ability to regularly work weekend shifts.

Required skills:

  • Minimum 1 year experience in an equine setting
  • Strong equine handling/restraint skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with doctors, clients, and other team members
  • Must be flexible with schedule during emergency situations

Preferred skills:

  • Experience jogging/lunging horses for lameness examinations
  • Performing routine in house lab work (fecals, cytologies, cultures) and preparing blood, fluid, and tissue samples to be sent to outside labs
  • Experience assisting during exams and procedures (PE, dental floats, joint injections)
  • General understanding or knowledge of equipment (endoscopy, radiology, ultrasound, shockwave therapy) used in the veterinary clinic.
  • Knowledge of sterile prep techniques for procedures both in clinic and at farm calls
