Monitors animal health and welfare with the opportunity to work with canine and feline species. Position includes assisting all departments onsite including the hospital, socialization, quarantine, shipping and outside colony teams.   • Bachelor or Associates degree in Life Sciences, Associate degree in Laboratory Animal Technology, Associate degree in Veterinary Technology, Registered Vet Tech or Certified Vet Tech with a minimum of six months experience.  Experience may be substituted for education requirements.
  • AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technologist level desirable.
  • Six months of experience in a laboratory or veterinary setting preferred
  • Knowledge of anatomic and physiologic variations in lab animals, animal husbandry, behavior, feeding, nutrition, diseases, and reproduction.
  • Good interpersonal skills

Position Summary

Under the guidance of the veterinarian, the vet tech is responsible for providing high quality healthcare to all animals at the Metro Richmond Zoo including all species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and invertebrates. The vet tech collaborates with the animal care team to promote the general well being of all animals.

The Peninsula Animal Referral Center is seeking compassionate; team oriented experienced, positive full-time and part-time Licensed Veterinary Technicians for our emergency department. Applicants must have strong communication skills, an energetic attitude, empathy, and enthusiasm for helping client and patient alike. 

We offer competitive salaries, and additional benefits. Must have 1-3 years' experience. Student LVTs with hands on experience may apply.

Our 12,000 sq ft emergency & referral center is located between historic Williamsburg and the Virginia Beach/Norfolk metropolitan area. Amenities of this state-of-the-art facility include extensive monitoring and diagnostic equipment, and digital radiography. The emergency practice is located in a separate area of the referral center and has enjoyed strong support from area practices for the past 45 years. Specialty practice includes a Cardiologist, Dermatologist, Internist, Ophthalmologist and Surgeon.
