The Veterinary Technician will assist our Shelter Veterinarian with all treatment and care of animal patients. Essential Functions of the Job Include:

  • Assist coordinating daily surgery, treatment schedules; perform pre-surgical duties, physical exams
  • Transport animals to and from surgery

  • Knowledge of vet tech and animal shelter procedures and protocols 
  • Knowledge of restraint, handling techniques, general animal safety practices, including recognizing animal behavior patterns
  • Strong data entry skills and the ability to maintain accurate records
  • Ability to work effectively - independently and in teams - and in an atmosphere of multiple projects, competing priorities, and deadline pressures

Dress Code
Full-set scrubs are required (tops and bottoms) with closed-toe shoes. Occasionally, jeans and an SPCA logo shirt are appropriate.

Compensation & Benefits

  • This is a full-time, non-exempt position in which the employee will be scheduled a minimum of 32 hours per week and a maximum of 40 hours per week. This position will have infrequent overtime. Ability to come in after hours to perform emergency procedures.
  • A 60-day probationary period for the purposes of position suitability will begin on the start date
  • If currently a full time Fredericksburg SPCA employee; the employee's full-time benefits and PTO accruals will not be affected by probationary period. If a newly hired employee, the employee will be eligible for benefits the first of the month following the 60 day probationary.
